Transition Planning
At some point, we need to start planning for the future of your learner.
What are your students' goals after high school? The first part of transition planning is to make a solid pan that suits the interests and abilities of your student. Some students may be ready for post-secondary work, others trade school, and others may be looking at workshop vocational work for adults with special needs. In Ohio, once students reach the age of fourteen, we can begin this process. This becomes a part of their students IEP and is developed as part of the educational experience. We have several options in Ohio for post-secondary goals. One that is increasing in popularity is Option 23. Once students receive their diploma, they can continue to work toward vocational skills at the local Career and Technical Center. This program is catered toward students with ongoing special educational needs. We also have several schools that continue the educational experience past the age of 18 for more severe cases. Programs like this feed directly into an adult vocational workshop facility that gives supports and provides vocational experience and transportation to cognitively or developmentally delayed adults that qualify.
